Dance audition requirements
Students auditioning into the Miami Arts Charter School Dance Department must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for entry.
Applicants must prepare a one-minute solo in their chosen dance style and include elements in the dance to showcase their strengths as a dancer. Tik Tok or social media trending dances will not be accepted for the audition. Make sure your solo showcases original or traditional dance choreography.
Applicants must provide their own accompaniment/music already downloaded on a smartphone, iPod, laptop, or tablet.
Audition process consists of three parts:
1. Participation in a dance class where dancers will execute ballet and modern technique exercises as instructed by the teacher
2. Solo Performance
3. Short interview with the dance faculty (after solo performance)
Criteria for middle school will include:
1. A potential for trainable growth
2. Basic physical/movement and dance technique knowledge, including coordination, strength and flexibility
3. Rhythmic sensibility and musicality
4. A serious commitment to dance
Criteria for high school will include:
1. Intermediate to advanced dance technique knowledge, including coordination, strength and flexibility in ballet, modern, and/or contemporary dance styles
2. Movement quality and expressiveness as a performer
3. Rhythmic sensibility and musicality
4. A serious commitment to dance
Required Dress Code
Female Dancers:
- Any solid colored dance leotard
- Any solid colored convertible or footless dance tights
- Ballet or jazz shoes
Male Dancers:
- Any solid colored tight shirt or tank
- Any solid colored footless tights or biker shorts
- Ballet or jazz shoes
Additional information:
- All female dancers should have hair neatly up in a bun and pulled tightly away from the face.
- Warm-up clothes during the audition are not permitted.
- Please remove all jewelry and piercing of any kind. Small earring studs are permitted.
