CREATIVE WRITING

Program Overview

In MAC’s Creative Writing Department, students will write stories, poems, plays, and personal essays, while developing critical skills through reading and critiquing peers’ work. Additional opportunities include submitting to writing competitions, attending the Miami Book Fair, and, for those interested, writing a novel.

Upperclassmen also explore screenwriting for film and television, gaining proficiency in industry-standard terminology, film history, and script formatting to craft their own original screenplays. The program emphasizes exposure to diverse forms of creative expression, encouraging students to engage with a variety of texts—from poetry and stories to graphic novels, comics, and classic movie scripts—helping them grow as versatile writers.
