Theatre audition requirements
Students auditioning into the Miami Arts Charter School Theatre Department must meet the following requirements to be considered for entry:
Middle School Theatre Audition Requirements:
Perform a one-minute memorized monologue from a published play or monologue book, appropriate for your age. It should demonstrate an understanding of the character and their motivation. Please do not use monologues from poems, films, and TV shows.
High School Acting Audition Requirements:
Perform two contrasting one-minute monologues, memorized, to showcase your acting range. Both monologues must be from published plays—either modern or classical—and appropriate for your age, displaying character and motivation. Avoid using monologues from poems, films, TV shows, monologue books, or musicals. Be prepared to take direction and present the monologue in different ways if asked.
High School Musical Theatre Audition Requirements:
Prepare a one-minute memorized monologue from a published play or musical, suitable for your age and demonstrating character and motivation. Additionally, perform 32 bars (about one minute) of a musical theatre song within your vocal range. Bring your own instrumental accompaniment track, which can be on a phone; a speaker will be provided for auditions.
Note: There's no separate dance audition, as all students take Dance for Musical Theatre in their first or second year in the program.
High School Technical Theatre Audition Requirements:
Present a Technical Theatre design portfolio that includes at least one of these sections:
• 3 Full-Color Costume Design Renderings
• 3 Make-Up Designs with Application Photos
• 3 Publicity Design Samples (e.g., Posters, Tickets, Playbills)
• Either 1 Scaled Set Design Model or 3 Perspective Set Design Renderings
• The portfolio must feature your original work and can include digital-assisted designs. Present it in a well-organized portfolio folder or binder.
