Mr. Gonzalo Hernández is a visual artist and educator originally from Lima, Peru. He joined Miami Arts Charter School in 2021, where he teaches advanced courses in Visual Arts, including Art & Collaboration, Studio Art, Portfolio Development, and Art History & Criticism Honors.
Hernández began his undergraduate studies at 16 and won his first national art award at 20. He later earned his M.F.A. in Fibers and M.A in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited internationally at Design Miami, SCAD Museum of Art, Locust Projects, and Vigil Gonzales, among others and has been featured in publications such as Hyperallergic, ArtNews, and Cultured Magazine.
At MAC, his students have earned recognition at both the local and national level, including Scholastic Art Awards and YoungArts distinctions. In addition to teaching, Hernández remains active in the Miami art community, with an upcoming solo exhibition at David Castillo Gallery in September 2025 and future projects at ICPNA Lima and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO).
