Alfredo de la Rosa was born and raised in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood and attended the Miami-Dade County Public schools where he learned the trumpet and was a Silver Knight Honorable Mention winner at Miami Jackson Senior High School in 1985.

Mr. de la Rosa attended the University of Miami School of Music where he studied trumpet with Gilbert Johnson and performed as principal trumpet player of the wind ensemble under Alfred Reed in the 1980’s. He earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education and began his music teaching career at Henry H.   Filer   Middle School in Hialeah, Florida in 1990.

In 1994, Mr. de la Rosa became the instrumental music director at South Miami Senior High School where he led the band, orchestra and jazz programs to state and national acclaim and founded the South Miami Senior High School of the Arts magnet program. Under Mr. de la Rosa’s leadership, the South Miami High School  band program achieved two back-to-back top-ten placements at  Bands of America Regional marching band festivals and his music programs consistently earned Superior ratings at Florida Bandmasters and Florida Orchestra Association music performance assessments.

As a jazz teacher, Mr. de la Rosa’s groups have performed with artists such as Ira Sullivan, Ed Calle, Regina Carter, Danilo Perez and Chuck Mangione.

In 2002, Mr. de la Rosa achieved certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in music and currently holds National Board certification.

After his tenure at South Miami Sr. High School, Mr. de la Rosa served as band director at Ponce de Leon Middle School in Coral Gables, Florida and the Academy of Arts and Minds Charter High School in Miami.

In 2009, Mr. de la Rosa founded Miami Arts Charter School and is currently  the school's director and instrumental music conductor. Under his leadership, the school has earned consistently high academic results and is currently an “A” school.

He is a member of the Florida Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Florida Orchestra Association and he frequently serves as an evaluator member on Quality Assurance Review teams of the AdvancedEd/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI), the agency that evaluates standards compliance toward school accreditation. 

In addition to serving as Miami Arts Charter School’s director, Mr. de la Rosa remains personally engaged in the education of his students as instrumental music conductor and is also a teacher in the school.
